Het HeldenHandboek

C.P.O.’s are a fascinating component of heritage menswear design. The phrase is said to mean “Chief Petty Officer” and to refer to the warm jacket-weight shirt supplied by the USN to petty officers. But the style has evolved in two directions, both civilian and military. We find both arm/navy C.P.O. shirt-jackets when we’re scouring the inventory of our favorite vintage suppliers but we also find lumberjack style check C.P.O.s in thick flannel. A twist on the uniform version that takes it far from the world of sailors and soldiers.

Our Winter 2011 CPO moves in a third direction endeavoring to take the best of the shirt-jacket concept, render it in a feather-light quilted construction, integrate practical anatomy in the shape and fit as well as make use of ribbed stretch panels and pit-venting to keep the style trim and layering friendly.
